Singapore Impressions
Hello everyone. This was the view from our bedroom window last night. Pretty sweet don't you think
Hope you all had a great xmas and a fantastic New Year. Singapore has been... interesting. We still have 2 more days here but as Sean said "You'll be bored after 3 days". I can see his point.
I don't want to sound like I'm not having a good time. It is a great place to visit but it does seem like a bit of a wasted trip as it's so similar to the UK that there isn't that many new things to do. If you have a look at the 365 challenge link you can see that so far we've only done 5 new things in 4 days which is a bit lame.
I guess most people come here for the shopping and there is a lot of that. Everywhere you look there are malls, malls, malls and as Isla says, they are a bit like casinos in Las Vegas - designed to get you in and prevent you finding your way out. The fact that they are air conditioned means you find yourself lured in even if you don't have a shopping agenda. Unfortunately if you are in the market to buy clothes and you have a shop size larger than a 6 or a waist larger than a 32" then you are screwed. Everyone here is tiny (in fact I feel like a giant for once!).
Other aspects that make you feel like you've not left home are things like the electrical supply which uses UK plugs so no need for adapters, the newspapers (yesterdays was called "The Sunday Times") and also a lot of the architechture is very British.
The food here is amazing though. As someone who loves his grub this has put a massive grin on my face. Yesterday we had the most sushi you've ever seen. It was in one of those restaurants with the all-you-can-eat conveyor belts that ran past your table. I felt like doing one of those cartoon things where the conveyor belt just ran into my mouth and I just kept eating and eating. However, we ordered from the menu instead! I think tonight we are going for Thai food. Mmm.
